Beauty.

BEAUTY

Defininition:
the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).

In that case how to people see others as beautiful, what does it actually mean when one sees another as beautiful?
'deep satisfaction', 'intense pleasure'
'Beautiful' such an innocent and complimentary word you'd think?
I thought that word comes from the heart, yet it just seems to be all down to natural instinct... you see something that you call beautiful, gives you a pleasure, you want to intensify it, you get it, and there you have it, i quote - you have your deep satisfaction and intense pleasure.

Maybe that relates to a lot of things in life, you want, you get, you use...

A part of life...you want someone, first pleasure just to make sure they are up to your standards, then once you have it you use it to create new life that have those good standards you have previously looked for, then you carry on making what you have produced to be as beautiful as you can make it to ensure they carry on in their life doing exactly what you did...
Life...is it about reproduction? creating something that holds great ''beauty'' that you have and that you have seeked, to create even more ''beauty''.

Personally, i want to ignore all this, i want to believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder ; even though that states it is to an extent, i want to know it comes from a deeper place than natural instinct...i want life to be more that nature taking its course. I want beauty to be something magical and enchanting.

What is beauty? You tell me.

Technically, on a scientific level, that is true. But it also does come from a deeper level. We saw something that struck us deeply with it's magnificence and gave it name: Beauty. And beauty isn't always in reference to something visual. Some of the most beautiful things I've come across in this world are pieces of music. I believe that the most beautiful things are the things that appear naturally and can never truly be recreated. A perfect sunset or a symphony written from the heart that makes no sense on paper but when it's all played together it touches something deep inside. But it is also true that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. I may think a perfect sunset is beautiful, but another person may not. Another person may see the beauty in the curves of a perfectly made car. And some people simply don't understand the word. I believe that when it comes down to people and the words they create for things and the way they feel about things there is no way to quantify them and use any one bubble to encompass everyone. People are too individual. But then, a question for you. . . why, if people are so individual and unquantifiable then why is it that when they get together in groups do they all seem to think the same and act the same? Where does 'mob mentality' come from?

I think you've hit the high note there!
Almost saying what I actually wanted to say, but making a whole lot more sense.

But I have to spring off 'mob mentality'...

Ohh such a hate...I constantlly look at groups of people and just think , they look the same, they have the same attidue, they talk the same...I could go on!
Obviously some things have to rub off on each other, but why can't they just let themselves be free and express themselves as an individual.

I've studied it to some degree and most researchers put 'mob mentality' down to people being individually too afraid to stand out. . . in a mob of 300 people 298 of them could secretly want to step out and say 'this is wrong' but they each think they are the only one and so keep quiet.

A case study: In New York in the 80's a woman was being brutally murdered in a crowded street. There were about 100 bystanders and not one of them did anything. Why? Because each of them assumed someone in the crowd had called the police, but because everyone assumed someone had done it, no one did.

A lot of people conform to a group to save face, even if we say we are individual. . . I have been in a situation myself where I have thought it safer to go with the flow than to stand out.

For more case studies on mob mentality you can look at the Los Angeles riots of 1992, the New York Draft Riots (the movie Gangs Of New York climaxes in the midst of these riots) and the Tulsa Race Riot.

For an extremely large scale look at mob mentality jsut take a look at the credit crunch: The whole world was taken in by the banks promise of cheaper, easier finance and there was a period of global, frenzied spending which caused the economy to crash because the banks eventually ran out of the resources to offer this 'cheap and easy' credit source. Now the entire world has become extremely money conscious and cautious. Mob mentality.

I think that it's something that comes from deep within our psyches from when we were animals and had to live in packs to survive. . . when we gather in large groups we recall that 'herd' way of thinking. . .

I'm sorry haha. . . I just realised I'm practically writing an essay here lol. . .

(Can you guess who this is? :-p)
